Access by bus
It is a priority that people can access essential services and employment centres by public transport. The target we use to monitor this is sourced from Plymouth’s Second Local Transport Plan 2006-2011.
Core Strategy Target 14.2
Increase the percentage of all households in deprived areas that are within 30 minutes travel time by public transport of Derriford Hospital and Tamar Science Park.
The figures for 2010 to 2011 show that off-peak bus access to Derriford has fallen slightly from 90 per cent to 88.5 per cent, but in the peak period it has improved from 82 per cent to 84 per cent. This may be due to operators concentrating resources more on the peak services as a means of minimising the effect of the economic recession on bus use.
Overall, taking peak and off-peak times together, there has been a slight improvement over the year.
Plymouth Transport and Highways through Plymouth’s Third Local Transport Plan (2011 to 2026) will seek to improve accessibility and equality of opportunity across the city through a partnership approach, known as accessibility planning and where possible taking a more creative approach to using all the transport options available.
