Statement of Accounts 2010 to 2011
The Council is required to produce an annual Statement of Accounts. This document shows local people and others what services the Council has spent money on during the year, how these have been funded, and the financial position at the year-end. Inevitably, as it is the statutory form of the accounts, it contains technical language and so a glossary to help explain some of the terms can be found at the back of the document.
The accounts for 2010 to 2011 have now been audited by Grant Thornton UK and the auditor has issued an unqualified opinion. This basically means that he is happy with the final figures, although a number of amendments have been made to the accounts since they were approved by the Director for Corporate Support in June 2011. The accounts were approved by Audit Committee on 23 September 2011.
A Summary Statement of Accounts for 2010 to 2011, which show a simplified and easier to understand version of the audited accounts, is currently being finalised and will soon be available on the Council’s website.
In addition to the Statement of Accounts the Council has included a more detailed analysis of the accounts of its subsidiaries included within the consolidated group accounts. Details of projects supported under Government initiatives for which the Council is the Accountable Body is soon to be available on the Council’s website.
The auditor is required to provide an Annual Governance Report which provides a summary of the work carried out during the 2010 to 2011 audit of accounts, the conclusions reached and the recommendations made. This was also reported to the 23 September 2011 Audit Committee together with the revised Statement of Accounts as is required by statute.
The total allowances paid to Members are disclosed within the Statement of Accounts each year. Details of Member's allowances paid in 2010 to 2011 are available from the Members allowances and expenses page.
The Council's Statement of Accounts for 2010 to 2011 can be downloaded from the documents table below. Previous years accounts are also available for download.
