Availability and bookings

Plymouth Register Office is available for ceremonies Monday to Saturday.

Registration Officers and celebrants are available to attend ceremonies seven days a week at venues Licensed and Registered by Plymouth City Council.

Once you have decided on a date or possible dates for your ceremony and verified that you venue of choice is available, you must contact the Registration Service to check the availability of the registrars or celebrant.

Provisional bookings for the Register Office, Registrars or Celebrant may be made up to one year in advance.

To check availability or make a provisional booking please contact the office by telephone, in person at the Register Office, or by email.

There are a number of ceremony choices for you to choose from:

  • An intimate 15 minute minimum or basic ceremony is available Monday to Friday, in an office environment with just two witnesses or a ceremony room with up to 10 guests.
  • A 30 minute minimum, basic or enhanced ceremony is available Monday to Saturday in a ceremony room with up to 55 guests and access to the gardens for photos.
  • A 45 minute minimum, basic, enhanced, supreme or unique script ceremony is available Monday to Saturday in a ceremony room with up to 55 guests and access to the gardens for photos.
  • Attendance of Registration Officer at an approved premise is avaalable Monday to Sunday.

To confirm the booking for a marriage ceremony or civil partnership you will be advised to begin the legal preliminaries by attending the Register Office in the district where you have resided for at least seven days or, if you are a foreign national subject to immigration control, at your nearest designated Register Office. Please note that most offices run an appointment system. This is called 'giving notice'.

To confirm the booking for a re-affirmation of marriage vows, commitment ceremony or naming ceremony, you will be asked to pay a deposit. Payment can be made by post (cheque or postal order), telephone (credit/debit card) or in person (cash, cheque, postal order, credit/debit card).

An appointment system operates for Birth and Death Registrations, Giving Notice, Marriage Ceremonies and Civil Partnership Registrations. Please call 01752 268331 to make an appointment.
