BBC – Environment and Conservation

The BBC’s environment and conservation pages not only complement BBC programming, but also include sub-sections headed Agriculture, Atmosphere, Biodiversity, Energy, Fresh water, Forestry, Habitat loss, Industry, Marine and Population.

Campaign for the Protection of Rural England

The CPRE campaigns for the protection and enhancement of the countryside. The website includes news and information about the CPRE and its activities.

Centre for Alternative Technology

CAT, “Europe’s leading Eco-centre”, is a charity that promotes sustainable living, particularly regarding renewable energy, building construction, organic farming, recycling and alterative sewerage systems. The website provides news and information about CAT and its work and visitor centre in Snowdonia, including a virtual tour of its site.

Conservation Foundation

Founded by David Bellamy and David Shreeve, the CF promotes sustainable living and “positive environmental action”. The website includes news about projects and an online Parish Pump newsletter.

Natural England

Natural England brings together English Nature, the Countryside Agency and the Rural Development Service. The site includes news and national and regional information about Natural England and its work including sustainable development and the social, economic, and environmental well being of the English countryside.

Earthwatch

News and information from Earthwatch, which organises educational expeditions to promote a sustainable environment, linking to regional sites, including Earthwatch Europe, which includes sub-sections headed Research, Conservation and Education.

Earth Trends

Earth Trends is an “environmental information portal” provided by the World Resources Institute. The website includes subjections relating to coasts, water resources, climate, population, business, energy, biodiversity, agriculture, forests and environmental governance.

Energy Savings Trust

News, information and advice from the EST about home and transport energy efficiency.

Environment Agency

Website of the government agency responsible for protecting and improving the environment in England and Wales, with news and information about the agency and its work, and topic-related sub-sections including “air quality”, “conservation”, “waste” and “water quality”.

Environment Council

The Environment Council is a charity working towards solutions for environmental issues through business, government and community partnerships. The website provides news and information about the council and its activities.

Environment Jobs

“The UK's No.1 website for jobs and volunteering opportunities in the environmental sector.”

Environment Times

Online version of the magazine provides with brief news and articles. (Access to in-depth articles requires subscription.)

European Environment Agency

Includes news and information about the EEA, and indicators, reports, links and data on a number of environment themes including water, air, waste, transport and climate change.

Friends of the Earth

News and information about the FOE and its activities, campaigning to raise awareness about global warming and climate change.

Global Warming: early warning signs

Regional maps and information, including signs, indicators and results of global warming.

Greenpeace

Greenpeace is a not-for-profit organisation campaigning against threats to the planet’s biodiversity and environment. The website provides news and information about Greenpeace and its activities, and links to regional websites, including Greenpeace-UK.

National Trust

The NT’s website includes a sub-section headed “Conservation, Heritage and Learning”, with areas headed “Places and Collections”, “Countryside and Environment” and “Learning and Discovery”, which break down further into topic-related pages.

Soil Association

News, information and advice form the membership charity supporting organic farming, environmental protection and health benefits for consumers.

Sustain

Sustain promotes food and farming policies that protects the environment and improves the health and welfare of consumers and animals. The website includes news and information about the organisation and its activities.

United Nations Environment Programme

Very comprehensive website includes information about the UNEP and its work, with various topic-related sections and a sub-section for “Children and Youth”.
