Which young people does the Communication Interaction Team support?

The team is split into three sub teams:

  • Autism and Social Communication Team
  • Language Team
  • Early Years Team

The Autism and Social Communication Team

The team works with young people aged four to 18 years with social communication needs including those with a diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Please refer to the social communication checklist below for further information about the kind of difficulties a young person might display with these needs.

The Language Team

The team deals with young people aged four to 18 years with specific speech and language difficulties.

The Early Years Team (CITEY)

The team works with young people aged up to 5 years with social communication needs who require intensive support in both the home and any setting they attend. For more information please visit our general referrals page.

What happens if the young person is accepted onto the Communication Interaction Team caseload?

The school will receive a confirmation letter and a member of the team will contact the school to arrange an initial visit. [Back to top]

Is there any support for parents?

Yes. The teams below offer support to parents.

  • The Autism and Social Communication Team


    The team offers parent training throughout the academic year for parents of young people diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Condition. Visit the training page for more information.

    The Autism and Social Communication Team may offer parent consultation meetings to discuss concerns and look at strategies that could be used with the young person at home or to gather information towards reports when required.

    The Autism and Social Communication Team also supports the Plymouth National Autistic Society Parent Group.
  • The Language Team


    The team offers parent meetings alongside staff to foster joint working. They also offer support with the Speech and Language Support (SALS) Parent Groups. Please call the Information Support Worker (Parent Partnership) on 01752 304384 for dates and further information.
  • The Early Years Team (CITEY)


    The team offers parent drop in sessions and training around social communication needs. Visit the training page for more information.

Why might a young person without a diagnosis not be accepted onto the Communication Interaction Team caseload?
