Cutting Crime: Two Years On
In May 2009 the Prime Minister and Home Secretary launched the crime strategy update on the project Cutting Crime: A New Partnership 2008 to 2011, which was published in July 2007. Lives have been saved through tackling knives and guns; homes have been secured against burglary and communities have been relieved of the menace of anti-social behaviour. However we now also face tougher economic times; the strategy update recognises that we face new challenges, setting out refreshed and sharpened priorities showing how together we can keep communities safe and increase public confidence. You can download the report from the documents table below.
Community Payback Scheme
Following the April 2009 green paper 'Engaging Communities in Criminal Justice', which is available from the documents table below, your local probation service would like to hear your ideas on improvements work which may be suitable for offenders as part of a community sentence, such as removing graffiti, repairing and decorating community centres, clearing overgrown public paths and other spaces or collecting litter. In Devon and Cornwall over £1million of free labour is provided to communities as offenders pay back for the crimes they have committed. So if you have any suggestions for your local area, please visit the Devon and Cornwall Probation Trust website. For further information on the Community Payback Scheme, please visit the Directgov website.
