Cuckoo Wrasse

The Cuckoo Wrasse (Labrus mixtus) is one of the most colourful fish in the waters around Britain. It grows to approximately 35cm long and is usually found at depths below 10m.

The picture above is of a male fish and was taken at the Eddystone Reef, some 12 miles south of Plymouth. Females are almost entirely orange with a black and white dorsal fin. When there are no males present in an area, females can change sex.
