Feed in tariff appeal

The Government has lost its appeal in the High Court about proposed changes to the feed in tariff, and was seeking permission to appeal to the Supreme Court. Today, the Court of Appeal has denied the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) a hearing for its appeal against the High Court's December 2011 ruling. This means the feed in tariff will now go back to 43.3p for <4kW systems installed until 3 March 2012.

The court judgement means all those who have installed solar since 12 December 2011 and those who intend to install systems before the 3 March 2012 cut-off point will receive the higher rates for the full 25 years. Customers who register on or after 3 March 2012 will qualify for the higher rate until 1 April 2012, when the rates will drop to the figures set out in the 31 October 2011 announcement.
