Registering for business rates
When you move into a business rated property, you must tell the Council as soon as possible. You can telephone the business rates section on 01752 304966 or 01752 304897.
Remember always give us the exact address of the property.
The following information will be needed:
- your full name and address including trading name
- if it is a registered company, you must provide the company registration number
- your contact telephone number and position in the business
- date lease/tenancy commenced or date property purchased
- date stock was first put into the property
- name and address of the owner and contact telephone number
What happens now?
We will send you a business rate account. If you occupy between 1 April and the 31 December we will normally offer you instalments to pay your business rates. However, if it is towards the end of the calendar year (31 December) we may not be able to offer you this facility. For a full financial year you will be offered the option of paying your business rates with ten instalments. These normally start on 1 April and finishing on 1 January of the following year.
How do I pay?
For full details see the paying business rates page. The Council recommends the direct debit method of paying your business rates because of its ease of use and the direct debit guarantee.
Download the direct debit mandate from the documents table below.
I cannot pay the accounts you sent me
Please telephone the Council immediately on 01752 304966 or 01752 304987. We may be able to enter in to an arrangement depending on your circumstances even if it is on a temporary basis.
