Equality Framework for Local Government
What is the Equality Framework for Local Government (EFLG)?
EFLG is a nationally recognised benchmark against which Councils can measure progress with equality.
It was introduced in March 2009 and builds on the work councils did under the old Equality Standard for Local Government (ESLG). It is easier to use and focuses on outcomes for our community.
The framework has three levels:
- Level 1 Developing
- Level 2 Achieving
- Level 3 Excellent
We achieved Level 3 of the Equality Standard for Local Government (ESLG) in November 2008 through a peer assessment and we have migrated across to Level 2 (achieving) of the new framework. Our aim is to be at Level 3 (excellent) by 2012.
The EFLG will look at five areas:
- Knowing your communities and equality mapping
- Place shaping, leadership, partnership and organisational commitment
- Community engagement and satisfaction
- Responsive services and customer care
- A modern and diverse workforce
