Migrant workers
Migrant workers are people who make a choice to leave their home country to work in the UK. They have either permission from the British government to work here, or automatic rights to do so.
Generally, migrant workers are employed in areas where recruitment is difficult. The industries that need migrant workers in Plymouth and the south west include:
- Agricultural work - picking fruit and daffodils
- Factory work - food packing, or mail sorting
- Care provision - nursing homes or hospitals
- Hospitality industry - hotels, restaurants, and bars
- General labouring
- Medicine, dentistry, engineering, science and technology.
