Statement of Accounts 2007 to 2008

The Council is required to produce an annual Statement of Accounts. This document shows local people and others what services the Council has spent money on during the year, how these have been funded, and the financial position at the year-end. Inevitably it contains technical language and a glossary to help explain some of the terms can be found at the back of the document.

The Accounts for 2007 to 2008 have now been audited by Grant Thornton UK and the auditor has issued an unqualified opinion, which basically means he is happy with the final figures, although a number of amendments have been made to the accounts since they were approved by Audit Committee in June 2008. The Accounts were re-approved by Audit Committee on 24 September 2008.

The auditor is required to provide an Annual Governance Report which provides a summary of the work carried out during the 2007 to 2008 audit of accounts, the conclusions reached and the recommendations made. This was reported to the 24 September 2008 Audit Committee together with the Statement of Accounts as is required by statute.

A summary Statement of Accounts for 2007 to 2008 is also available to download. They show a simplified version of the audited accounts which are easier to understand.

Consultation on Annual Report

The final Performance Monitoring Report for 2007 to 2008 was presented to Cabinet on 3 June 2008 along with the financial outturn for the year.
