Electoral services

The Electoral Registration Service and Elections Office are responsible for preparing and updating the Register of Electors, postal and proxy voting, the conduct and administration of elections and boundary reviews and referendums.

Primary objectives

  • To provide a high quality service that is equally available to all customers.
  • Maximising the levels of electoral registration, producing an enhanced and accurate Register of Electors.
  • Organise all principal elections within the city.
  • Encouraging the people of Plymouth to participate in local elections with the objective of increasing, as far as possible, the level of voter turnout.
  • Increasing the levels of postal and proxy voting applications.

Customer service commitment

  • To deal with customers in a courteous and polite manner.
  • To respond to written enquiries as soon as possible, but within at least 10 working days.
  • Telephones will be answered within six seconds (three rings).
  • To respond to email enquiries within three working days, where possible.

A number of forms and leaflets are available to download in various languages and formats from the Electoral Commission website.

We welcome suggestions because this helps us improve our service to you. Although we have to work within electoral law, we will undertake to implement reasonable suggestions that are possible to make within our existing policies and practices.
