Our performance

We want to deliver high quality services in a fair and equal way to all sections of the community. We aim to continuously improve the quality of the services we provide for local residents.

To achieve improvement we have developed a strong Planning, Performance and Financial Management Framework. This provides a clear, strategic direction to focus on the important issues facing the local community.

We continually monitor our achievements against our corporate objectives to focus resources and to check that planned activities will be effective in addressing the local needs.

To secure continuous improvement by taking on board customers’ views it is essential to conduct good consultation and enable customers to participate in decision making.

The Audit Commission, which is the Government's local government watchdog, assesses how well each council is delivering services for local residents. It publishes a Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) scorecard for each council based on a range of performance information.

You can see the scorecard on the Audit Commission website.

Plymouth City Council’s Performance Plan 2008 to 2009

We have produced our Performance Plan for 2008 to 2009 including information on performance results and targets, and a brief statement on contracts. The Performance Plan shows how we have achieved against key targets set for services such as waste, planning, benefits and housing. This plan is a statutory document which all local authorities are required to publish annually. It was adopted by the Council on 23 June 2008.

This is the last year that we are required to produce a Best Value Performance Plan using Best Value Performance Indicators (BVPI’s). In October 2007, as part of the Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR), the Government announced a new single set of 198 national indicators for English local authorities and local authority partnerships.
