Forest School at Mount Edgcumbe

Looking for something for the children to do? Well if they are aged between six and 12 years why not let them join us for a fun day in the woods here at Mount Edgcumbe. There will be games, arts and craft, adventures making dens and camp fires whilst learning about the natural environment and how to appreciate it.

The day starts at 9.45am and runs until 2.15pm and costs £20 per child per session (or £15 per child for two children from the same family). Your child will need to bring a packed lunch, drink, warm waterproof outdoor clothing and stout shoes or wellingtons, as the session will run come rain or shine.

The event is run by fully qualified and insured Forest School leaders from the Forest School Programme which runs in conjunction with Ofsted. All leaders hold current Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and First Aid Certificates.

Coastal Walk

Clothes feeling a little tight around the middle after the Christmas period? Why not take advantage of the beautiful countryside along the Rame Peninsular to blow the cobwebs away with a guided walk along the coastal path from Mount Edgcumbe.

Meeting in the lower park at Cremyll gates at 10.30am where you will be met by an experienced Park Ranger. Good walking shoes and warm, weatherproof clothing is a must to enjoy this adventure to the full. The walk will take approximately three hours and cost £4 per person.

Murder Mystery Evening

Things that go bump in the night… for something a little more exciting why not join the Candlelight Theatre Company here at Mount Edgcumbe for cocktails, a three course 70’s theme dinner and….. murder most horrid!

Meeting at Mount Edgcumbe for a cocktail at 7pm you will have the opportunity to meet your fellow sleuths and plan how you’re going to solve the murder. The cost of the evening is £30 per person, groups welcome. Booking is a must for this popular event, so don’t miss out call today.

Camellia Walk

This is an opportunity to join the Curator of the National Collection of Camellias, held by Mount Edgcumbe Country Park, on a conducted tour of the collection that currently numbers approximately 1000 cultivators.

Meeting at Barrow car park at 11am, the walk will take approximately two hours and costs £3 per person. Suitable walking shoes and clothing is a must on this outdoor adventure. Due to limited space, booking is essential.

Camellia Study Day

This is a unique opportunity to spend the day with the Curator of the National Camellia Collection here at Mount Edgcumbe. The first camellia study day held at Mount Edgcumbe in several years, this is your chance to learn about the history of this delightful plant, the types of flowers, pests and diseases, plus techniques about planting and propagation.

This is a 'hands on' day so you will need to bring secateurs, wellingtons or walking boots and waterproof clothing for the outdoor program plus indoor shoes for the indoor programme. A guided tour of the collection is part of this unique fun day. Lunch, tea and coffee will be provided during the day.

Meeting on the terrace in front of Mount Edgcumbe at 9.15am for a 9.30am start the course will run until 3.30 pm and costs £25 per person. A buffet lunch will be provided during the day. Places are strictly limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Edgcumbe Explorer

Enjoy a fun day exploring the grounds of Mount Edgcumbe. Be transported back to the time of early explorers with only a map and the landmarks to guide you!

Admission is £2 per adult, £1 per child and under fives go free. Places are limited and must be booked in advance by completing and returning a booking form by Friday 10 April. Booking forms will be included in the forthcoming Wild About Plymouth leaflet, which will be available from mid-July 2008 onwards.

Orienteering Taster Course

Do you ever feel like striding out into the countryside and exploring all that the Westcountry has to offer but are a little unsure of how to find your way around? Well here's the perfect opportunity to learn some new skills on this beginners course set in beautiful Mount Edgcumbe. The course will be run by experienced members of the Cornwall Orienteering Club.

You should meet at Maker Car Park at 9.45am for a 10am start. The course will run until 3pm. You will need to wear suitable walking footwear and make sure you have warm and waterproof clothing. We advise that you bring along a drink and something to eat. The cost of the event is £4 per person and places should be booked in advance.

Photography Workshop

This is a chance for those interested but not necessarily very experienced in photography to make use of the picturesque grounds of Mount Edgcumbe to gain some tips from photographer, Jess Maslen, on how to get the best out of your camera. A practical session will take place outside, weather permitting.

Meeting at Barn Pool Picnic area at 9.45am. for a 10am. start, the course will run until 4pm and costs £20 per person. You should bring a camera (either film or digital), a selection of lenses (for SLR cameras ONLY), a tripod (if you've got it) and an umbrella (just in case!). A light picnic lunch will be provided during the day. Places are limited, so please book in advance.

Dawn Chorus

Awaken to the delights of the avian world here at Mount Edgcumbe. Join our expert guide to experience the amazing sounds of dawn birdsong within the gardens of the estate. Meeting at Barrow Car Park at 4.30am, the walk will take approximately 2½ hours and finish off with breakfast and cost £6 per person. Suitable walking shoes and clothing is a must, and don't forget the binoculars! Numbers are restricted so booking is essential.

Tubs and Planters Workshop

Do you want to make the most of your tubs and hanging baskets this year? Why not come along and talk to the experts for all those handy hints and tips. Bring your favourite tubs and baskets along and we will have all the plants, compost etc to purchase on site at a reduced rate. There will be a demonstration by our gardening expert, followed by tea and coffee before you get your hands dirty and create your own masterpiece. Going Bats at Mount Edgcumbe

Join us for a nocturnal adventure and let our colonies of bats be your guide. With rare species calling Mount Edgcumbe home, you could be in for a real treat with this expedition. Meeting on the terrace at the front of the house at 8pm, the walk will take approximately two to three hours and finish off with hot soup and cost of £4 per person. Introduction to Tai Chi

Relax with us here at Mount Edgcumbe and learn to take life in your stride. This introduction to the dynamic form of moving meditation which is Tai Chi will be under the expert tutelage of an instructor from Tai Chi Nation.

Tree Trail

Introduction to Painting

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with local artist Louise Courtnell to capture some of Cornwall’s most beautiful landscape in watercolours, oils or acrylics. Louise will work with you throughout the day giving advice, tips on your use of materials and hints on the painting techniques that have made her such a popular artist.

Family Bushcraft Day

Enjoy a family adventure with our experienced rangers learning all about the great outdoors. Learn how to build a shelter, light a fire without matches and even forage for food!

All children must be accompanied by an adult with no more than 2 children per adult. Tickets are adult + one child - £10, adult + two children £13. Meet at the Penlee Battery car park at 10am wearing suitable clothing and footwear, you should bring a packed lunch and drink with you. The day will run until 3pm. There are limited spaces on this event, so please book early to avoid disappointment.
