Behaviour support

Who are we?

The Primary Behaviour Support Team is part of the department for Lifelong Learning. The multi agency team is led by an educational psychologist and includes support workers, social workers and teachers.

The team is experienced in working with individual primary children, groups, whole classes, schools and families. We also offer training opportunities and are always looking to develop new, effective approaches.

What do we do?

  • We help children make the most of school - the team works with children, families and teachers - building friendships, boosting confidence and helping them enjoy school life.
  • We help improve behaviour in primary schools - we work alongside teachers, support staff and governors to find practical ways to increase positive behaviour.
  • We work with primary children, their families, schools and other agencies - we plan together, making sure we are all working with each other to achieve the best results.
  • We support the community - on Thursday afternoons in term time, we offer a behaviour listening line for everyone - Soundout. At the same time, we offer the opportunity for school staff and other agencies to call in and view our selection of books, games, videos, software and other resources - Findout.
  • We help parents - the team offers free, practical, fun sessions for parents and carers across the city - Parent Survival Clubs - full of tips and ideas to help with behaviour at home.

Additional services

The Behaviour Support Team understands how demanding it can be to manage children’s behaviour both at home and at school. The team has continued to develop its support to children, parents and schools through a variety of ways. We have developed a wide range of additional services that can be readily accessed without any forms to complete! Read on…
