Help listening to the website
ReadSpeaker
To help improve the accessibility of our website we use the ReadSpeaker XT software. This will read aloud the content and links of a web page including documents in PDF format.
ReadSpeaker XT does not require any downloads, installation or plug-ins of software and works on most computers including PC/Windows, Apple Mac, Linux and SUN. ReadSpeaker XT works on most web browsers including Internet Explorer (IE), Netscape, Opera, Safari, Mozilla and Lynx.
All that is required is a live internet connection, browser and speakers (or headphones). ReadSpeaker XT will work on slower connections (33k modem and up).
How to activate ReadSpeaker XT
- Click on the 'read this page button' - the speaker icon on the left hand side of every page - and a navigation bar will appear at the top of the page
- Choose an option; read text, read links or stop
- Make sure your volume is turned up
Listen to pages with ReadSpeaker XT
ReadSpeaker XT can read the content of a page in two ways (keyboard shortcuts are shown in brackets):
- Click on 'read text' (Alt + T) and all of the content will be read
- Select and highlight an area of text and click on 'read text' (Alt + T) and that text will be read
Links
There are several ways that ReadSpeaker XT allows users to navigate the site:
- By navigating the site as you would without ReadSpeaker XT running
- By using 'read links' (Alt + L), listening to the links and then entering a link number in the 'link name/number' box and hitting either enter or 'go' (Alt + G)
- By entering a full or partial link name in the text box and hitting either enter or 'go' (Alt + G)
