Outdoor swimming pools
Tinside Lido
Built in 1935, Tinside Lido has always been popular with residents and visitors alike. Having been closed since 1992, a £3.3 million re-construction project has enabled Plymothians to once again enjoy Plymouth's beach. The building was listed in 1998 and has been restored to its original 1930s art deco glory. Located on the world famous Plymouth Hoe, this facility offers panoramic views across Plymouth Sound.
This large outdoor salt water pool offers a unique experience:
- three fountains
- inflatable fun sessions
- panoramic views across Plymouth Sound
- evening light shows
- grade II listed art deco building
- changing cubicles and lockers
- sunbathing terrace with sun loungers
- loungers, deckchairs and wetsuits available for hire
- disabled access
- refreshments available, picnics allowed
- evening swimming sessions
- swim shop
Tinside Lido opens for the summer season only, from late May until early September. Weather permitting it is open seven days a week.
Mount Wise swimming pool
The refurbishment of Mount Wise pools was part of a larger £5 million urban park project, jointly funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Plymouth Development Corporation and Plymouth City Council. Thanks to this project the new pool complex opened in July 2000.
The park itself contains a Redoubt landmark feature, the Scott Memorial, the harbour and a wild meadow area. This project has completely transformed the waterfront area around Mount Wise and has something for everyone.
This facility has a 25 metre rectangular swimming pool, a fun activity pool and a paddling pool.
Mount Wise opens for the summer season only, usually from late May until early September. Weather permitting it is open seven days a week. Entry to Mount Wise swimming pool is free of charge.
