What training is available to foster carers?
The Council invests heavily in enabling foster carers to develop their skills and expertise.
Potential foster carers must attend our skills to foster preparation training. We also offer a comprehensive training programme for approved foster carers. This includes training on a wide range of topics including first aid, child protection, safer care, equality and diversity, education, health, working with birth parents, childhood attachments and preparing young people for independence, plus specialist training in topics such as mental health.
Training is available to fit around your commitments including daytimes, evenings, weekends - and even training that can be done online in your own time.
We also aim for foster carers to be able to access professional qualifications in foster care if they wish to do so, including NVQ and BTEC Level 3.
