How to pay your council tax

We normally ask you to pay your council tax in 10 instalments, due on the 15th of each month from April to January, but you can choose how you wish to pay from the following options:

Online payments

Pay online using our safe and secure online payments system.

Direct Debit

If you would like to pay by direct debit please complete the mandate form, below, or complete the form included with your bill and return it to us at the Civic Centre.

We can also take Direct Debit details over the phone - please call 01752 668000. You can choose to pay on the 1st or 15th of the month.

The Direct Debit Guarantee

• If the amounts to be paid or the payment dates change, you will be told of this in advance by at least 10 working days as agreed
• If we, your bank or building society makes an error, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your branch of the amount paid
• You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by writing to your bank or building society. If you do cancel the Direct Debit with your bank or building society please send a copy of this letter to us.

Standing Order

This needs to be arranged with your bank / building society. Our bank details are:

• Sort code: 089021
• Account number: 61003444
• Account name: Plymouth CC TAX

Please ensure you quote the eight digit reference number from your bill.

Cheques, postal orders and money orders

Cheques, postal orders and money orders should be crossed and made payable to Plymouth City Council. We cannot accept post dated cheques.

Please write the eight digit payment reference number from your bill on the back of your cheques.

If you need a receipt you must send a stamped addressed envelope.

In person (you will need your payment reference number)

• At the Civic Centre using the self service kiosk
• At a Post Office
• At a PayPoint (cash only)

Automated telephone line

You can use your debit or credit card to make a payment using our automated telephone line 24 hours a day. Please ensure you have your 8 digit council tax payment reference number, your credit or debit card and then telephone 01752 262243 to make a payment.

When paying by telephone banking please use the following details:

• Co-operative bank sort code 08-90-21
• Account number 61003444
• Account name Plymouth CC CTAX
• Remember to quote your 8 digit council tax payment reference number
