Changes can be made to the electoral register on a monthly basis (except 10 August to 22 November when the annual register updating preparations are underway). Anyone who is not registered or has moved to a new address or has changed their name should advise the Electoral Registration Office and provide the necessary details.

All you have to do is fill in a registration form. You must fill in and sign the form yourself. If anyone else in your house is eligible to vote, they must fill in a separate form.

When you send us your form, we will add you to our list of new applicants. Any elector can then object to your name being added to the register. If this happens, we will write to you.

If your application is not objected to, we will change your details within seven weeks of receiving your form. We will write to tell you when your application is allowed.

We will be updating the electoral lists as follows:

If we get your form by .... Your details will be changed on ....
Wednesday 18 April 2012 Thursday 26 April 2012
Thursday 10 May 2012 Friday 1 June 2012
Friday 8 June 2012 Monday 2 July 2012
Tuesday 10 July 2012 Wednesday 1 August 2012
Friday 10 August 2012 Monday 3 September 2012

We will also tell the Electoral Registration Officer for your old address that you have moved, so that your name can be removed from that register. People who live at two homes (including students) are allowed to register at both. If you do not want to be removed from your other address, please explain why on your form.

There are special rules about names being added to the voters list during an election period. Because of these rules you may not be able to vote at the election if you are added during this time.

The system of 'rolling registration' is suspended during September to December, when the annual canvass of households takes place.
