Key facts and figures
Plymouth is the largest city in the south west region after Bristol and the second largest on the south coast of England. It has a resident population of 248,100 and a further 100,000 in its travel-to-work area and, with unemployment levels generally in line with the national average, availability of labour is not an issue to worry inward investors.
Plymouth has an excellent industrial record, with the local labour force being skilled, highly motivated and loyal. Staff turnover is generally low, with a large percentage of companies reporting a figure of 5% or less. Absenteeism is also low and this, matched with a recently-reported increase in labour performance and profitability, means that companies are more than satisfied with the local workforce.
Plymouth also offers the right environment to not only attract, but retain, high quality personnel which is obviously a very important factor when considering expansion or relocation.
