Creative Writing Group
Our Creative Writing course ran from 2006 to 2010. It was open to everyone and provided people with an opportunity to develop their writing skills. During 2005/2006 attendees worked on a variety of poems, short stories and dialogue based on our partnership work and exhibitions.
Term One: Directive Writing - based on ‘In All Directions’
Attendees used the exhibition to explore the pleasure and pain of travel through historical and contemporary work from all around the world.
Term Two: Writing Aloud - based on ‘Access All Areas’
This term was based on this live and loud touring exhibition which explored many aspects of the sound and music industry through a range of photographs and hands on exhibits including an invisible harp and giant walk on keyboard.
Term Three: Let’s Go Shopping - based on ‘Retail Therapy’, ‘Light into Colour Turner in the South West’, ‘Lead Astray’ and ‘In a Pickle’
A number of exhibitions were on the list this term giving attendees a variety of themes to choose from including shopping, sculpture, art and natural history.
Writer of the Year
Each Creative Writing Course culminated in a special presentation session where attendees receive a certificate and a booklet containing their work. In 2006, we also gave a special Writer of the Year award to Barbara Hill. Barbara attended each of the three terms throughout 2005 to 2006 and displayed a wide range of creative writing skills.
Take a look at some examples of her work by clicking on the links to the left. These plus work by other members of the Creative Writing Group were displayed in our Discovery Centre during August 2006.
