‘Focus on nature’ photography competition
We ran a local wildlife photography competition alongside our showing of the prestigious Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition.
The competition offered the opportunity for individuals to win a fantastic prize and have their work displayed alongside the show.
Three different categories were available:
- Landscapes – urban, rural, coastal, parkland as well as images of human impact from litter to landfill
- Animals – wings, tails, legs, underwater or on the land
- Plants and their relatives - from the tiniest flower to the largest tree
The competition was open to everyone and each category was judged within three age bands: Primary, Secondary and Adult.
Keen local photographers of all ages captured the wildlife and landscapes of Devon and Cornwall and submitted their images. We received hundreds of entries, 35 of which were displayed alongside the exhibition.
We were really pleased with the high number of entries and our judges had some really difficult choices to make! The winning images included fungi, a dragonfly, wild flowers, toads and otters. They provided us with a really good compliment to the main exhibition and a great way for us to celebrate our local natural environment. All the winners were invited to a special award ceremony where they were presented with their prizes of digital cameras and microscopes and were able to see their pictures on display.
