This guidance can generally be applied to:

• urban studies
• countryside visits
• coast and beach
• fresh water sites
• farm visits
• woodland sites
• fishing from land

Management plans for self lead activities

For a proposed trip to any of the above areas the party leader will draw up a management plan, based upon risk and quality assessment, and other relevant factors.

It will generally provide for:

• information about the area to be able to plan appropriate activities and contingencies for accidents and emergencies
• risk assessment to help plan supervision including staff with specific responsibilities, for example first aid
• appropriate learning activities and strategies
• knowledge of the participants so that they can be managed safely and productively
• associated travel, accommodation, administration and liaison with parents.
