Non domestic rate multiplier
The non domestic rate multiplier is set by the Secretary of State each year.
The rate poundage (multiplier) for the financial year from 1 April 2007 is 44.4 pence for every pound of rateable value.
Where a ratepayer qualifies for small business rate relief the lower rate multiplier of 44.1 pence for every pound of rateable value applies.
For previous years it was as follows:
- 2006/2007 - 43.3 pence
- 2005/2006 - 42.2 pence
- 2004/2005 - 45.6 pence
- 2003/2004 - 44.4 pence
- 2002/2003 - 43.7 pence
- 2001/2002 - 43.0 pence
- 2000/2001 - 41.6 pence
How rates are calculated
The rateable value multiplied by the rate poundage gives the annual rates but the final amount could be higher or lower because of transitional adjustment.
