Non domestic rate multiplier
The non domestic rate multiplier is set by Government from 1 April each year for the whole of England.
The local council works out your Business Rates bill by multiplying your rateable value by the multiplier or 'poundage', although the final amount could be higher or lower because of transitional adjustment.
Details of this scheme can be obtained from the Council or by visiting the Department for Transport, Local Government and the Regions (DTLR) Business Rate Guide or mybusinessrates.gov.uk websites.
The multipliers for each financial year are:
- 2011 to 2012 - 43.3 pence (small business rate 42.6 pence)
- 2010 to 2011 - 41.4 pence (small business rate 40.7 pence)
- 2009 to 2010 - 48.5 pence (small business rate 48.1 pence)
- 2008 to 2009 - 46.2 pence (small business rate 45.8 pence)
- 2007 to 2008 - 44.4 pence (small business rate 44.1 pence)
- 2006 to 2007 - 43.3 pence (small business rate 42.6 pence)
- 2005 to 2006 - 42.2 pence (small business rate 41.5 pence)
- 2004 to 2005 - 45.6 pence
- 2003 to 2004 - 44.4 pence
- 2002 to 2003 - 43.7 pence
- 2001 to 2002 - 43.0 pence
From 1 April 2005 there have been two multipliers. The standard multiplier and the small business multiplier, applicable to those businesses eligible for small business rate relief.
