Phase 2 North Road East at Station Access Road
The North Road East at Station Access Road junction is the principal vehicle access for the station, but is also an area that sees high numbers of pedestrians and cyclists.
This phase of the Station project will seek to improve safety at the junction, provide a dedicated pedestrian crossing facility where a recognisable desire line exists, formalise and provide safer and dedicated road space for turning vehicles from North Road East into the Station access road.
You can view the Phase 2 improvement works in the document below.
The changes at North Road East will be carried out from 6 February to 30 March 2012. The safe construction of the road humps/plateaus at the junction of Caprera Terrace and the vehicle access road to the station will require road closures to be in place for a short time. These are provisionally programmed for a 10 day period in the first two weeks of the scheme construction period and will only be in place at night.
We will seek to minimise disruption for people who want to access the station and properties on Caprera Terrace. However, it may be necessary for a short period for diversions to be put in place in order to safely construct the works.
Access to Caprera Terrace
A road hump/table is to be constructed across the mouth of Caprera Terrace where it joins North Road East. This is to provide continuity of provision for pedestrians from North Cross through to the station and to reduce vehicle speeds entering and leaving Caprera Terrace.
In order to safely construct the road hump/table the width of usable road will need to be reduced and the works carried out at night when less vehicles are expected to be using the access.
Access to the Railway Station
A road hump/table is to be constructed across the mouth of the access road to the station where it joins North Road East. This is to provide continuity of provision for pedestrians from North Cross and North Road East through to the station and to reduce vehicle speeds entering the station.
In order to safely construct the road hump/table the access road for the station will need to be closed. The work requiring the road closure will be carried out at night with the noisier work stopping at 11pm or before. All noise will be minimised as practicable.
When the road closure for the Station Access Road is operational, access to the station for cars and other light vehicles will be via Welbeck Avenue and Glen Park Avenue. Large vehicles will be diverted along Saltash Road, Dale Road, Sutherland Road and Glen Park Avenue. Please see the Plymouth Station - Station Access Road Traffic Diversion Plan below.
Visit the Roadworks section on the PlymGo website and look for '1327 North Road East' for road closure details.
