PSCB Annual Conference 2012
Safeguarding disabled children
We are calling all practitioners and their managers to a timely and important day conference in June 2012 to consider best practice for supporting and safeguarding children with disabilities or complex needs.
Research makes clear that children with disabilities are three times more likely to suffer abuse than the general child population. We have a duty to protect children who are particularly vulnerable or have complex needs. This conference will hear from the national specialists in this field, offering insight into the experiences of children with disabilities and identifying the key skills required to meet their needs.
This conference is not simply about children with disabilities. It about the latest knowledge of best practice for effective communication between adults and children with complex needs. We know that services for children with disabilities can be improved, and that safeguarding their needs and rights is everybody's business.
This full day conference, running from 9am to 4pm in central Plymouth, will hear from a team led by renowned specialist Ruth Marchant of Triangle Services and Psychologist Sean Cameron from University College London, offering the latest knowledge from research and ideas for support to children with disabilities that offers the best protection and life outcomes.
Plymouth Safeguarding Children Board Conferences are known for their high quality and in-depth content. This conference is already heavily subscribed, and seats will be allocated to prioritise current practitioners and their managers from across all agencies working for children in Plymouth. Please do book early to avoid disappointment. Places will be offered on a quota basis for each professional service. Acknowledgement of application does not represent allocation of a seat, and we will notify you four weeks before the conference.
The conference venue will offer full disabled access and facilities. Beverages and refreshments will be served throughout the day, with a light lunch provided.
