Advisory Team for Sensory Support
We enable successful inclusion by encouraging independent learning and the development of appropriate life skills. We work with children and young people (CYP) who are Deaf or Hearing Impaired, Visually Impaired (severely sight impaired and partially sighted), Deafblind or Dual Sensory impaired who are experiencing developmental, educational or social and emotional difficulties because of their sensory impairment.
We as part of the Children’s Integrated Disability Service, use a holistic, multi-discipline approach to the personal development, educational success and lifelong achievement of CYP. This makes sure they develop to their full potential by being able to succeed in educational, social and community settings successfully. This also helps them develop life skills. We make sure that CYPs needs are identified and assessed, and that appropriate help and support is received as early as possible.
Training courses are provided in school for staff (teachers, support assistants, mealtime assistants etc). We also provide training for parents, other family members and siblings.
We provide support in a variety of settings; including the home, pre-school settings and school.
We are teachers for Vision Support, Teachers of Deaf Children and Access and Inclusion Workers.
We may be the only agency from ChIDS who work with sensory impaired CYP and we have an open policy for referrals once parental consent has been obtained.
