Take A Part

'Take A Part' is an arts in the public realm project for the Efford area of Plymouth which uses creativity and the arts process to underpin the regeneration in the area. It is a partnership between the Heart of Efford Community Partnership, Plymouth City Council and Plymouth Arts Centre and involves residents, schools, businesses, associations, youth groups and other local institutions in decision making about their environment.

Take A Part believes that the process of making art as a community is as important as the final artwork produced. Core to the development and success of the project has been the constant involvement of the community and their willingness to take ownership, be challenged and explore something new for their community.

Since it's development in 2009, 25 separate workshops, projects and events have happened in the community of Efford and the Take A Part project has seen people in Efford make sculptures, take walks, grow food, cook, make film, attend symposiums and galleries, throw celebration events and collectively take a part in delivering better health, green space, heritage and physical change initiatives to their community.

Going forward in 2011, the Take A Part Project has reached far more residents as we launched Efford FM, a one day community radio broadcast for Efford by Efford and are currently working to develop a plan for community cohesion through explorations of spaces and places in the community with social artists Wochenklausur.

We are still making jams, harvesting apples and going on walks with Grow Efford and are exploring art and social enterprise development opportunities with High View School.
