Vote by post

Voting by post

For making new applications to vote by post, or to change or cancel an existing postal vote, proxy appointment or postal proxy arrangement - applications must be received by the Electoral Registration Officer at the Civic Centre, Plymouth not later than 5pm, 11 working days before polling day.

Anyone can now vote by post you no longer have to state a reason.

This means that instead of going to vote in person at your polling station, you can request that your ballot paper is posted to you. You then complete it and post it back to us.

A postal vote can be applied for to enable you to vote at all future elections, or for a particular election or for a set period.

You maybe:

  • going on holiday
  • away at college
  • planning a business trip
  • suffering from an illness
  • disabled
  • visiting a sick relative
  • simply do not want to go to the polling station

Postal votes can now be sent out of the United Kingdom, however, ballot papers will only be sent out seven to 14 days before polling day. Therefore, you may prefer to appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf to make sure that your vote is counted.
