Municipal Waste Management Strategy (MWMS)

Plymouth is experiencing a period of significant change. There is a real expectation of improving the quality of people’s lives in a way that truly reflects the aspirations of local communities. The Municipal Waste Management Strategy is one of the key policy documents in delivering change and the expectations of our community.

The Headline Strategy sets out a proposal for the management of the city’s municipal waste over the period from 2006/2007 to 2030/2031. The document proposes that we optimise recycling and composting and treat the non-recyclable waste in an Energy-from-Waste facility.

The Municipal Waste Management Strategy options have an impact on the environment, use of resources and economic well-being. These impacts have been assessed by independent consultants in the Strategic Environmental Assessment report.
