Wood View Learning Community

Wood View Learning Community is now open. The campus consists of three schools; Sir John Hunt Community Sports College, Woodlands Community Special School and Whitleigh Community Primary School. There is also a formal collaboration of partners including Whitleigh Children’s Centre, Wise Owls Neighbourhood Nursery, a Pupil Referral Unit for Young Parents, Whitleigh Youth Centre and Adult Education and more recently the Plymouth Forest School. This extensive partnership aims to deliver a cohesive range of services to the children, young people and their families of the Wood View Learning Community.

The scheme is a showcase for the Council's pledge to put education in the heart of every community and to encourage all neighbourhoods to regenerate as well as the thriving city centre and waterfront locations.

Wood View Learning Community was highly commended in the 2009 British Council for School Environments (BCSE) awards for best practice in the design and construction of schools.

Ty Goddard, chief executive of the BCSE, said: "The quality of entries led to intense debate amongst the judges, which is how it should be. Wood View Learning Centre shows that the right resources and approach can produce great projects, which we can be proud of.

"Our thanks go to all for being willing to invest their time and energy in a project which ensures pupils and teachers have such an inspirational centre to learn, play and teach in.

"These awards are a big 'thank you' to all those across the sectors helping to make our schools better."
