Financial support when moving off benefits into self employment
Information about the programme
New Enterprise Allowance
The New Enterprise Allowance will give people getting Jobseeker’s Allowance access to business mentoring and a financial package worth up to £2,000. This includes a weekly allowance and access to a small loan.
The New Enterprise Allowance may be available to you from day one of your claim if you are claiming Jobseeker's Allowance, although there are some exceptions to this, but Jobcentre Plus staff will check your eligibility for you.
Visit GOV.UK for more information.
Help may also be available through Enterprise Clubs. Enterprise Clubs will provide unemployed people interested in self-employment with a place to:
- meet and exchange skills
- make contacts
- share experiences
- receive support
- encourage each other to work through their business ideas
Talk to your Jobcentre Plus personal adviser for more information about the New Enterprise Allowance or Enterprise Clubs.
- If you are receiving benefits, it does not mean you cannot aim to become self-employed. Jobcentre Plus can give advice on whether your benefits will be affected and any other support available.
- More information is available on going self-employed at the GOV.UK website.
- Is there a cost? No
