Why vote?

Many people consider that voting makes no difference. Is this true?

Governments and local councils are responsible for a wide range of services, such as; education, environment, health care, roads, refuse collection, defence, leisure etc.

You will no doubt have opinions on all these issues. Voicing your opinions and involving yourself will help governments and councils to make decisions.

Voting is the most important way of getting involved and provides you with a voice of influence on issues of concern.

Your first step will be to get yourself included in the Electoral Register.

The Children and Young People's Unit website has a lot of information which will be of particular interest to young people.

Students

Students studying away from home, at university or college, can register to vote at home or at their term-time address or even at both addresses (as long as they do not vote twice).
