Working in partnership with your Social Worker
"We were nervous at first but the social worker was great and made us feel relaxed. It was not threatening at all and we used to look forward to her coming."
During your 'home study' period, your social worker will spend time getting to know you and your family by visiting you a further 10 to 12 times. Rather than discriminating against any aspects of your lifestyle we will look at you as an individual and as a family, considering the kind of life that you could give to a child and the sort of child who would fit into your lifestyle.
It is a two-way procedure because while we will use it to get to know you, you will use it to discover everything you want to know about adoption. Everything you tell us will be treated as strictly confidential and with the utmost respect.
It is important to remember that adoption is a service for children and it is our duty to ensure that children receive the best possible care. If at any point we decide to terminate your application for any reason, we promise to tell you with courtesy and sensitivity and explain our reasons in writing. If you disagree with our decision you will be treated fairly and have the opportunity to talk to us about it and object in writing.
