Plymouth City Council is committed to promoting equality and delivery and delivering the Council’s vision of all our residents enjoying an outstanding quality of life. To achieve this, we need to ensure that we place equality and diversity at the centre of our service delivery, decision making and our procurement practices. This includes considering how we appoint external providers and how contracts are delivered.

Procurement has a key role to play in promoting equality. We must consider equality and diversity in all procurement activity, where relevant and proportional to ensure that we are delivering our Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED).

The PSED requires public authorities to have due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act.
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not, and
  • Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

As a supplier to Plymouth City Council, you/your organisation may be required to commit to equality and standards in the delivery of a contract and may be assessed against equality and diversity-based criteria at both the selection and award stages of the procurement process.
