Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information about services for children, young people and families

The Children, Young People and Families Service are continuing to work, offering a reduced service to children and young people.

Most social workers and the Youth Offending Team (YOT) workers are working from home. If you have an allocated worker they can be contacted as usual by phone or email.

We are deciding which visits need to go ahead on a case by case basis and will contact you by Skype or phone. Your YOT worker will contact you to discuss your order and how you continue to meet requirements.

Your worker will call you before visiting in order to ask you about the health and wellbeing of everybody in your household, so that we can make the safest decisions for everybody.

Midland House 

Midland House is open, but please do not come to the office unless you have an urgent need that can’t be managed any other way. If you have symptoms or have been in contact with somebody who does please call your social worker first to discuss this.

Most meetings are still going ahead but we are doing them online. Speak to your social worker about how we can help you to take part in these.

Fostering service

The fostering service is available. There are duty workers to answer any queries relating to fostering or concerns you may have.

All Plymouth foster carers are advised to speak to their supervising social worker in the first instance. If you are unable to do this please contact the duty social worker on 01752 308760. If you have any worries or concerns that are out of office hours please contact the out of hours service who will be able to help.

Worried about a child or young person?

Plymouth Childrens Gateway continues to provide advice and information for children, young people and families and to Plymouth residents and professionals who need help or need to report a safeguarding concern about a child. 

Gateway staff are available Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm and Fridays 9am to 4.30pm.

The Plymouth Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) continues to operate in normal business hours above and will respond to any safeguarding referrals that are received from the Gateway.  Referrals from professionals and the public can be sent by email

Out of hours 

The Out of Hours service will respond to emergency safeguarding concerns for any Plymouth child or young person. 

The service operates from 5pm to 8.30am on week days and provides a 24 hour service over the weekend
