Why are ants a pest?

Ants are an irritant but are not thought to carry disease. It is impossible to know where ants were last searching for food so it's advisable to take steps to prevent them entering your home.

Where are they found?

There are several species of ants that live in gardens and buildings. They enter homes and businesses for shelter and warmth. They search for food, particularly in kitchens and store rooms.

How to prevent an infestation

  • Seal cracks and crevices in door and window frames
  • Keep food covered
  • Clear away food and liquid spillages
  • Clean food debris from under kitchen appliances
  • Make sure all rubbish bins have tightly sealed lids
  • Keep compost enclosed and covered
  • Clear away your pet's food after feeding
