Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information on bins, recycling and waste

Page updated 20 October 2020

Rubbish and recycling collections

We are experiencing some delays with rubbish and recycling collections but please continue to put out your green and brown bins on their normal collection days. Check your bin collection day.

If anyone in your home is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, bags containing used tissues should be placed into another bag, tied securely and kept separate from other waste. This should be put aside for at least 72 hours before being put in your usual external household waste bin.

Please remember to clean bin handles and wash your hands after putting bins out for collection and bringing them back in.

See the Government advice on cleaning and disposing of waste

Recycling centres

Chelson Meadow Recycling Centre is open every day from 8am to 6pm.

Weston Mill Recycling Centre is open on Saturdays and Sundays only from 8.30am to 5.30pm.

Restrictions are in place so please check all the information on our recycling centres page before setting out and be prepared for long wait times.

We are working hard to provide as many services as possible and would ask that you try to minimise waste and continue to recycle as much as you can.

Bulky waste collections

Our usual bulky waste collection service has been suspended until further notice. Please store bulky waste on your property until full services are resumed.

Alternatively you can dispose of certain items at our recycling centres or you may consider using a commercial waste collection service

Please don’t put bulky waste in your bin or leave it out in the street or back lane (this is flytipping).

Other commercial waste collection services

There are lots of local private businesses that can collect and dispose of your waste. Check you are using a registered waste carrier as you are responsible if your waste ends up flytipped.

You can check whether a business is an authorised carrier (or exempt from registering) on the Environment Agency’s public register.

You can see if the business is also Trading Standards approved on the Buy With Confidence website

Commercial waste disposal

The transfer station at Chelson Meadow is open to commercial waste customers during the following times:

Monday to Thursday: 8am to 4pm

Friday: 8am to 3.30pm

Saturday and Sunday: Closed

Commercial waste applications

We are now accepting new commercial waste applications.

Other services

All other bins, recycling and waste services are currently running as usual. We are reviewing our services daily and this page will be updated with any changes.
