Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information on bins, recycling and waste

Page updated 22 April 2021

Rubbish and recycling collections

Rubblish and recycling collections are continuing during the part of the road map out of lockdown. Please continue to put out your green and brown bins on their normal collection days. Check your bin collection day.

If anyone in your home is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, bags containing used tissues should be placed into another bag, tied securely and kept separate from other waste. This should be put aside for at least 72 hours before being put in your usual external household waste bin.

Please remember to clean bin handles and wash your hands after putting bins out for collection and bringing them back in.

See the Government advice on cleaning and disposing of waste

Recycling centres

Both our recycling centres remain open during during the part of the road map out of lockdown, but visits should be limited to essential use only.

Please respect the safety of our staff and other site users and adhere to the social distancing rules in place. As these are outside spaces you are not obliged to wear a face covering but we would encourage it where possible.

You should not visit the sites if you are isolating, displaying symptoms of COVID or shielding.

There is a limit of a maximum of two people per vehicle. Staff will not be able to assist you to unload so ensure that you are able to unload your own waste before you come to site.

Chelson Meadow Recycling Centre is open every day from 8.30am to 5.30pm.

Weston Mill Recycling Centre is open from 16 April 2021 8.30am to 5.30pm Friday to Monday.

Restrictions are in place so please check all the information on our recycling centres page before setting out and be prepared for long wait times.

We are working hard to provide as many services as possible and would ask that you try to minimise waste and continue to recycle as much as you can.

Bulky waste collections

Our bulky waste service is currently suspended.  We are intending on re-launching this service in August 2021, dependent on a new booking system which is currently being designed to improve our service and make booking a collection with us easier. Thank you for your continued patience.

Other commercial waste collection services

There are lots of local private businesses that can collect and dispose of your waste. Check you are using a registered waste carrier as you are responsible if your waste ends up flytipped.

You can check whether a business is an authorised carrier (or exempt from registering) on the Environment Agency’s public register.

You can see if the business is also Trading Standards approved on the Buy With Confidence website

The transfer station at Chelson Meadow is open to commercial waste customers during the following times:

Commercial waste applications

We are now accepting new commercial waste applications.

Other services
