Funerals and cremations

Whilst face coverings will no longer be a legal requirement, we are actively encouraging our visitors to continue to wear them in our buildings.

Although there is no longer the legal requirement to social distance we will be encouraging visitors to try to maintain a 2 metre distance from others where possible. We will also be  limiting attendance in our chapels, to the number of seats and we will not permit standing within the chapel to assist with airflow. Therefore once all seating is taken up we would ask other mourners to stand outside and we will use the outside speakers at both sites and the outdoor screen at Weston Mill.

Office

Our office at Weston Mill is now open and we ask that a face covering is worn when in the office.

If you do not wish to visit us in person you can make any enquiries by visiting our burial and cremation page, emailing cemeteries@plymouth.gov.uk or calling us on 01752 304837 or 01752 306104.

Book of Remembrance

The Book of Remembrance Room is open and we are actively encouraging all visitors to wear a face covering.

Services

Our service times continue with 45 minutes with an hour service available at 12.15pm.

We are now asking that our chapels are only filled to two thirds capacity which is approximately as follows:

  • Weston Mill - 70
  • Efford - 40

Singing and playing of musical instruments is once again allowed in our chapels, although everyone should be aware that this increases the risk of Covid transmission. Hymn books have not yet been returned to our chapels.

We continue to encourage as many mourners as possible to attend funerals virtually by using our free web-casting facility.

We ask that physical distancing of two metres when in the chapel is observed.

Donation boxes – we are happy for donations and collections to be carried out by Funeral Directors using their own donation boxes or encourage families to make use of online charitable giving sites.
