Death registrations

Due to the new emergency legislation now in force, Coronavirus (Emergency) Act 2020, we are now only conducting death registrations over the telephone until further notice.

Please do not call us – we will be provided with next of kin details as well as the medical certificate of cause of death by the doctor/hospital involved and will then contact you.

The Certificate for Burial or Cremation (the ‘green form’) which gives permission for burial or an application for cremation will be forwarded directly to the relevant place. You will also be able to order and pay for death certificates over the phone. If you already have received a Medical Certificate of Cause of Death please return via post to: The Register Office,1 Derriford Park, Derriford Business Park, Plymouth, PL6 5QZ, with your contact details and we will call you to make an appointment once we have received it.

Birth registrations

You can now book a birth registration appointment.

Please use the link below to make your booking and pay for a birth certificate.

Due to social distancing limitations, we will not be accepting payments in the office.

When you make your appointment you will receive a confirmation email, this will include a link to enable you to “book in” at your appointment. Please arrive at the Register Office 15 minutes before your appointment and click the “check-in” link. The Registrar will automatically be notified that you have arrived. Please socially distance outside the building and wait for further instruction by the Registrar.

When registering the birth you will asked for the following information

  • Date and place of birth of baby (if multiple birth - the time babies were born).
  • Sex of baby.
  • Name and surname of baby.
  • Mother's and father's current name, including formerly known as names, maiden name, address, date of birth, place of birth, occupation of mother/father and date of marriage of parents (if applicable).

To keep personal contact to a minimum, if you are a married couple, we request only one parent attends the appointment. We also ask that children do not attend, unless childcare cannot be arranged.  You are not required to bring your baby. Baby changing and toilet facilities are currently unavailable.

Do not come to your appointment if:

  • you've had coronavirus symptoms in the past seven days

Our group citizenship ceremonies occur on the second Tuesday of every month. The Home Office have advised that due to the current circumstances they have extended the period to attend a citizenship ceremony for all applicants from three months to six months and will keep this under constant review. No adverse decisions will be made on applications because of delays caused by coronavirus (COVID-19).

Funerals and cremations

Face coverings are now mandatory for visitors to our buildings and we continue to adhere to the 2 metre social distancing within our buildings and throughout our grounds.

Due to coronavirus (COVID-19) measures we are following the latest advice and sadly have to limit the maximum number of people able to attend services to 16 people at Weston Mill and 12 people at Efford Cemetery and Crematoria. The attendees can be from the following:

  • members of the person's household
  • close family members and friends

As our services are now restricted to a maximum number of attendees (see above) we are currently offering free webcasting for every funeral which you will also be able to download.

Funeral and cremation services continue to run at Weston Mill and Efford Cemetery and Crematoria.

Our offices are closed to the general public until further notice.

We ask that physical distancing of two metres when in the chapel is observed.

Donation boxes – we would encourage Funeral Directors not to use donation boxes. As an alternative, we would encourage families to make use of online charitable giving sites.
