Late applications and late changes of preference

Once the closing date has passed, you won't be able to use our online application form so you'll need to submit a paper form instead. Please use the common application form on the primary or infant reception/foundation, junior, secondary and key stage 4 pages.

Forms received after 15 January 2020 but before 2 March 2020

Preference forms after Wednesday 15 January 2020 but before Monday 2 March 2020 will be considered as late applications unless there's a valid reason for the application being late such as a change of address. If accepted, they'll be considered in the first allocation round on Thursday 16 April 2020. If there's no valid reason for a late application, the application will be considered in the second allocation round.

Forms received on or after 2 March 2020

Forms received on or after Monday 2 March 2020 are treated as late applications.

The allocation process starts on Monday 2 March 2020 which means that an application received on or after this date will, in all probability be considered in the second allocation round as it will be too late to include the application in the first round.

Many schools will be filled in the first allocation round. If the school has already been filled, your child will be added to the waiting list for that school. If the school isn't filled, your child will be allocated a place in the second allocation round.

Grammar schools select pupils by proven ability in the 11-plus examination. There's a separate registration for the 11-plus which closes on Friday 30 August 2019.

Results of the 11-plus examination will be sent out on Thursday 10 October 2019 for both boys and for girls. Only candidates who have registered and sat the 11-plus examination at the required time and who have submitted an application for a school place by Thursday 31 October 2019 will be included in the first allocation round notified on Monday 2 March 2020.

It's anticipated that all grammar school places will be filled in the first allocation round. Generally, candidates who either apply late or who take the 11-plus examination later won't be included in the initial allocation round.
