Caring for Plymouth

Caring for Plymouth is a partnership between the Council, Livewell Southwest and a large number of voluntary and community sector organisations that provides a vital lifeline for people who are clinically extremely vulnerable to COVID-19.

As announced by the government last week, anyone who is deemed as clinically extremely vulnerable to COVID-19 are being advised to reduce their contact with other people and only go out for exercise and medical appointments until 2 December. This group of people includes some already seriously ill people as well as those living with a disability or ongoing medical conditions.

Caring for Plymouth services will be focussed on people who do not have established support networks so that they can access emotional support, access to food, medicine collection and support with paying bills and accessing money. Staff providing the service will have had background checks to provide added piece of mind.

Our staff are already in the process of contacting people known to be clinically extremely vulnerable but if you are in group and you urgently need support, please call 01752 668000.

COVID Winter Grant Scheme

The Government has created a COVID Winter Grant Scheme to support families with children, other vulnerable households and individuals. The scheme will run from December 2020 to 31/03/2021.

We will be providing supermarket vouchers to eligible children and young people in Plymouth who currently receive income based free school meals, to help their families buy groceries over the Christmas holidays. The vouchers will automatically be distributed to families by your child’s school before the end of term. You can see more information about how we manage your data in our Pivacy Notice below.

We have also partnered with  Plymouth Energy Community (PEC) to distribute £250,000 of grants to meet winter fuel bills for eligible families and single person households. Those eligible can also seek assistance with boiler repairs / gas safety checks through PEC’s existing contractors. Details will be released shortly, with the first grants issued in the New Year.

We will also support homeless people and families to move on from Bed and Breakfast and other forms of temporary accommodation. Our Community Connections Team will work with PEC to support people with fuel debt and white goods, both of which can be barriers to people moving into permanent accommodation. To find out more about the support available visit the dedicated page on our website on homeless support.

is also a wide range of organisations that provide food this winter and particularly at Christmas. All the information and support available is listed on Plymouth On-line Directory.
