Plymouth City Council's new administration has renewed its commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2030 by committing to UK100.

UK100 is a network of ambitious local leaders who have pledged to lead a rapid transition to net zero - with clean air in their communities - ahead of the government’s legal target of 2050.

Councillor Tudor Evans OBE, Leader of Plymouth City Council, said: "While we have long been a supporter of UK100, I think it's vitally important in the early days of our administration to reaffirm our commitment.

"Achieving Net Zero by 2030 is ambitious, but it is something that we simply must do and our Net Zero Action Plan commits us to doing everything within our direct control and our sphere of influence to help residents and businesses to rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Plymouth."

Councillor Tom Briars-Delve, Cabinet Member for the Environment and Climate Change, added: "Net Zero is a monumentally important task and the collaboration with other local authorities offered by UK100 membership will help Plymouth reach it.

"Over the next few months I'll be working to ensure that we are doing all that we possibly can to be on track for the 2030 deadline whilst seeking devolved powers and commensurate funding to move faster towards this goal. On sustainable transport, on home retrofitting, on renewable energy: I want Plymouth to be leading the way."
