Coronavirus (COVID-19) Message from city councillors
Message to Plymouth residents from all members of Plymouth City Council
In most of our lifetimes we have never experienced anything like that which we are now going through. Covid-19 is having a significant impact on all our lives and we are all very much in this together.
It is amazing to see so many people going out of their way to support others in these difficult times. The city really is coming together and we’d like to say a huge thank you to all the key workers and NHS staff who are working tirelessly, as well as to all those who are supporting others, whether by looking out for neighbours, donating to food banks, or protecting others by staying at home, keeping a safe distance and following good hygiene.
As a council we are united in our efforts to tackle the coronavirus epidemic and support and protect those in our city most at risk. We are doing our best to prioritise support for vulnerable people and to keep essential services running.
As part of our efforts to support the most vulnerable in our community through this we have created the Plymouth Good Neighbours scheme. This will assemble a bank of community volunteers that can be used by groups and charities across the city to provide help where it is needed most.
We will match the skillsets of volunteers to where they are most needed, directly and through the many great voluntary sector organisations in the city and key partners such as the Plymouth Octopus Project and Our Plymouth.
The Good Neighbours scheme is about supporting community groups who are already out there helping. If you want to offer your skills, or if you’ve set something up and you want us to help support you with more volunteers, please get in touch by visiting www.plymouth.gov.uk/goodneighboursscheme
As the coronavirus situation progresses and social distancing and self-isolation guidelines increase, there will be more ways to help those in need. If you sign up now, you will be contacted when a need arises that fits what you can offer.
In the meantime, please also continue to support your friends and neighbours, maintain at all times the guidance to keep social distancing and minimise non-essential travel.
Thank you for your support so far. By working together we will see Plymouth through these challenging times.
