Safeguarding Audit for Excellence Review (SAFER)

Early Years Safeguarding and Child Protection Audit

The Early Years Safeguarding and Child Protection Audit must be completed by all providers who are registered on the Ofsted Early Years Register and those who sign up to the Early Years Provider’s Agreement. The audit is mandatory in line with the requirements of the Children Act 2004 (Section 11), Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018 and Plymouth Safeguarding Children Partnership.

This new review will:

  • provide an audit of policies and procedures for each individual early years setting and childminder in Plymouth;
  • support settings and childminders in establishing whether practice is meeting the EYFS Safeguarding and Welfare Requirements and other legal duties;
  • support settings and childminders in reflecting on whether practice exceeds the minimum requirements of the EYFS;
  • allow the Early Years Safeguarding and Welfare Team to target support effectively across the city.
