Safeguarding Audit for Excellence Review (SAFER)
Early Years Safeguarding and Child Protection Audit
The Early Years Safeguarding and Child Protection Audit must be completed by all providers who are registered on the Ofsted Early Years Register and those who sign up to the Early Years Provider’s Agreement. The audit is mandatory in line with the requirements of the Children Act 2004 (Section 11), Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018 and Plymouth Safeguarding Children Partnership.
The audit is available to complete online. Once submitted this is returned to the Early Years Safeguarding and Welfare Team for review.
In order to streamline the process, including reducing the number of questions, settings and childminders will be provided with details of the questions and guidance on how to answer these in advance.
The questions/statements are also provided in advance so that they can be discussed with the whole staff team.
Safeguarding Audit for Excellence (SAFE Review)
The team of Safeguarding and Welfare Coordinators can also offer early years settings and childminders a SAFE review visit (this replaces the previous Welfare review/audit).
This new review will:
- provide an audit of policies and procedures for each individual early years setting and childminder in Plymouth;
- support settings and childminders in establishing whether practice is meeting the EYFS Safeguarding and Welfare Requirements and other legal duties;
- support settings and childminders in reflecting on whether practice exceeds the minimum requirements of the EYFS;
- allow the Early Years Safeguarding and Welfare Team to target support effectively across the city.
