Devonport Campaign

Fly the Flag for Devonport

Plymouth has been running the Fly the Flag for Devonport campaign since summer 2017 to help protect the Royal Marines and Devonport-based HMS Albion and HMS Bulwark from potential defence cuts.

The Government has now announced a major review of the UK’s strategic defence needs called the Modernising Defence Programme. This is looking at all the UK’s defence needs in the context of the increasingly complex world security landscape.

This could potentially have an impact on military personnel and assets in Plymouth, as well as the network of businesses that support the Naval Base and the Royal Dockyard.

Plymouth is the Royal Navy’s centre of amphibiosity and as a city we need to continue to make the case for why this capability is vital to the UK’s defence.

We are also submitting evidence to the Programme on the wider capability provided by HM Naval Base and Dockyard.

You can help make the case for Devonport by contributing to the Modernising Defence Programme public consultation.
