Forder Valley Link Road update

Graphic showing traffic arrangements at junction of Forder Valley Road and Novorossiysk Road from 1 September

On Thursday 1 September a number of traffic restrictions for the Forder Valley Link Road works will be lifted and drivers will once again be able to travel from Novorossiysk Road onto Forder Valley Road West.

Temporary lights at the junction will be removed and the new signals switched on but their configuration and timings will probably need some tweaking, so please bear with us while we get this right.

Extra lanes will be opened up throughout the day, with two lanes in most directions, as well as the new slip road from Forder Valley Road South onto Forder Valley Road West.

  • Drivers travelling from Leigham Roundabout will be able to turn left onto the slip road (there is a ‘give way’ restriction at the end) and towards Crownhill or, if they are heading towards Asda, use one of two right turning lanes onto Novorossiysk Road.
  • Drivers travelling from Crownhill along Forder Valley Road West will have two lanes onto Novorossiysk Road (towards Asda) and two right-turning lanes onto Forder Valley Road South (towards Leigham Roundabout).
  • Traffic from Novorossiysk Road will have two lanes to continue straight onto Forder Valley Road West (towards Crownhill) and two left-turning lanes onto Forder Valley Road South (towards Leigham Roundabout).
  • The two lanes heading north from Forder Valley Road South towards the new link road will be closed until the link road opens. The left-turn lane from Forder Valley Road West and the right-turn lane from Novorossiysk Road onto the new link road will be for access to Poole Farm only.

Please be aware there will be some further overnight closures on Forder Valley Road South and Delamere Road as part of the Forder Valley Interchange improvements.

A short section of Delamere Road will be closed overnight (in both directions) from Tuesday 30 August, as will the southbound side of Forder Valley Road, from the petrol station to Leigham Roundabout. This is for work to complete white lining, surface footways and install new signs. These closures will be in place from 7pm to 6am on weeknights only and works will finish on the morning of Saturday 10 September.

There will also be an off-peak daytime lane closure of the southbound side of Forder Valley Road on Friday 2 and Friday 9 September, followed by a full closure of Forder Valley Road (between Leigham Roundabout and the petrol station) overnight between 7pm and 6am on Saturday 10, Sunday 11 and Monday 12 September.

Finally, there will be some localised, off-peak lane closures on Novorossiysk Road but all accesses will be maintained. Further details on these closures will be made available nearer the time.

Both the Forder Valley Link Road and Forder Valley Interchange schemes are now ‘wrapping up’ and most of the traffic management is expected to be removed mid-September, at which time the speed limit will also revert back to 40mph.

We will, however, need to keep the link road closed until Persimmon Homes have completed certain works on the Palmerston Heights development in Derriford. This includes widening Pintail Way (the main access road to and from the development) to provide two northbound lanes and a southbound lane connecting to the new link road.

The roundabout at the top of Pintail Way is also being upgraded to a signalised junction with pedestrian crossings and the eastbound side of the connecting section of William Prance Road will be widened to create a second lane. You can view Persimmon Homes’ scheme design on our planning portal (reference number 17/01339/FUL).

We are in regular contact with Persimmon Homes and they hope to complete their works in late October. We can then safely open the new link road – which will be named Platinum Parkway in recognition of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.

Thanks, as always, for your patience.
