A woman who threw litter from her vehicle has been ordered to pay a massive £752.
The 48 year-old from Hooe was found guilty in her absence at Plymouth Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
The court heard how in November 2019, a Council enforcement officer witnessed somebody throwing a cigarette butt from a car window along Laira Bridge Road.
The officer was able to trace the defendant through the DVLA and contacted her to question her on the offence.
When an interview under caution questionnaire was unreturned, a fixed penalty notice for £100 was issued.
Over the proceeding months, the woman was sent several reminders, all of which were ignored.
She was subsequently summonsed to court and issued with a fine of £220 and ordered to pay legal costs of £500 and a victim surcharge of £32.
The total of £752 must now be paid within 28 days. She will also carry a criminal record.
Councillor Sally Haydon, Cabinet member for Customer Focus and Community Safety, said: "This defendant thought they'd get away with it; thought they could throw their cigarette end out of the window rather than take it home with them; thought that someone else could pick it up.
"But they were caught and now serve as the latest example of how far we'll go to punish the people who don't show our city the respect it deserves."
